Practical PowerShell
In addition to all my other writing and speaking gigs, I’m now writing a monthly column for a new eJournal from RealTime Publishers. The column, Practical PowerShell, will be a regular feature in Windows Administration in Realtime.
Windows Server 2008 +1 Event
I’ve been invited to speak at a Windows 2008 related launch event in Syracuse, NY on February 28. I’ll be speaking about PowerShell in as much time as they want to give me. The event is sponsored by Visory Group, a Microsoft Gold Partner. Microsoft will also be there in person and virtually to talk […]
Elevating Permissions for Vista Scripts
The June issue of TechNet magazine (www.microsoft.com/technet/technetmag) will have an article about elevating script permissions under Vista’s User Account Control (UAC), including some “PowerToys” you can use in your scripts to utilize RunAs, Run as Administrator, and other goodies. And, of course, there’s always my monthly Windows PowerShell column <grin>. Check it out!
MVP Summit (Part II)
One more thing I forgot to mention: One of the biggest concerns I’ve heard recently is, “Will Windows PowerShell run on “Longhorn” Server Core?” The short answer is, “no.” But there’s a long answer, and some hope.
A Package for Your KiX
PrimalScript 4.0 (and later) Professional and Enterprise include the Evolved Script Packager™, a tool that turns VBScript and JScript files into standalone executables (EXEs) for easier deployment. If you’re a KiXtart developer, however… that’s not much help. Fortunately, you can find “Kix2Exe,” a free packager for KiXtart scripts, at http://kix2exe.ramonitor.nl/index.php. This tool can be integrated […]
MVP Summit – Results!
So, I’m back from the MVP Summit feeling great about the future of Windows PowerShell (and Windows Server “Longhorn”, too, although that’s perhaps less relevant to this blog). Now, understand that the purpose of the Summit is primarily for us MVPs to take all the feedback we get from the community and deliver it to Microsoft. Microsoft shares a lot of their plans for upcoming software – but mainly to get our knee-jerk reaction at what the community would think of those plans. Most of the information is revealed under NDA (Nondisclosure Agreement), so I can’t share a lot of the details, yet. However, I can share some of the general direction!
Free instructor-led training, software, books, etc.
Do you work in a Microsoft Windows-based environment? Can you think of at least 10 administrative tasks that you find repetitive and inefficient? Or tasks that you just don’t bother doing – like changing service account passwords – because they’d simply be too time-consuming? If so, we’d like to give you some free training, free […]
Updated PowerShell Help Tool Now Available
SAPIEN Technologies has released a new version of their free PowerShell tool. This tool gets all the help information from your PowerShell installation and presents it in a nice GUI. Not only will you get alias and cmdlet help for the core PowerShell stuff, but also any installed snapins such as Power Gadgets, PrimalToys and PowerShell Community Extensions. As long as there is a registered PowerShell help file associated with a snapin, it should be detected and loaded into PowerShell Help.
