Practical PowerShell
In addition to all my other writing and speaking gigs, I’m now writing a monthly column for a new eJournal from RealTime Publishers. The column, Practical PowerShell, will be a regular feature in Windows Administration in Realtime.
SAPIEN PowerShell Extensions updated, source available
I’ve updated the “SAPIEN Extensions for Windows PowerShell” cmdlets, and made the VB source code available. There are a dozen or so cmdlets, many of which provide functionality useful in logon scripts or displaying simple GUI elements. Note that they’re *primarily* designed as simple examples of cmdlet development for someone looking to get started. You […]
Windows Server 2008 +1 Event
I’ve been invited to speak at a Windows 2008 related launch event in Syracuse, NY on February 28. I’ll be speaking about PowerShell in as much time as they want to give me. The event is sponsored by Visory Group, a Microsoft Gold Partner. Microsoft will also be there in person and virtually to talk […]
Got-PowerShell Revisited
Last week I showed a PowerShell function that used WMI to remotely query a machine to determine if PowerShell was installed. Well, like most things Microsoft there’s often more than one way to accomplish a task. Here is a different version of essentially the same function. This version, however, uses the .NET framework and the Microsoft.Win32.Registry class.
Is PowerShell Installed?
By now you may have PowerShell installed on more than a few machines. Maybe you even have the PowerShell CTP installed somewhere. Do you remember where you’ve installed PowerShell? Could someone else have installed PowerShell on a system without your knowledge? Perhaps an eager user?
I put together a PowerShell function you can use to check if PowerShell is installed on a remote system.
Exchange + PowerShell = Book
One of the fun parts about my job is helping new authors find a voice and an audience. That’s certainly the case for Ilse van Criekinge, an Exchange Server MVP who’s busy writing Exchange Management Shell: TFM for SAPIEN Press (www.sapienpress.com/exchange.asp). A couple of unedited preview chapters are currently available for download, along with a […]
Podcasted!
I was recently interviewed for Episode 16 of the PowerScripting Podcast. The hosts were kind enough to let me discuss several PowerShell-related topics in some detail, including my role with PowerShellCommunity.org, how to get started with PowerShell if you’re a complete newbie, where this PowerShell thing is going anyway, and more. Give it a listen! […]
Congrats New PowerShell MVP: Oisin Grehan
I knew that as soon as I posted my congratulations to Kirk I’d found out there were other new PowerShell MVPs. Thanks to Marco Shaw for being on top of these things. I’ve “seen” Oisin in the public newsgroups and he definitely knows what he’s talking about. His PowerShell blog can be found at PowerShellcommunity.org. […]
Congrats to new PowerShell MVP: Kirk Munro
The beginning of 2008 also marks the addition of new PowerShell MVPs. The latest (that I know of right now) is Kirk Munro. Kirk maintains an active Powershell blog (http://poshoholic.com/) and if a frequent newsgrouper. He is also active in PowerShellCommunity.org. Congulations Kirk on a job well done. But as you’ll soon find out..now people […]
