New in PrimalScript 2007: Visual Query Builder
PrimalScript 2007 Enterprise includes a new feature: Visual Query Builder. You may have seen something like this before in SQL Server or Microsoft Access. With Visual Query Builder you drag and drop tables, connect them and fill in some blanks to produce a SQL statement. You don’t have to write a complex SQL query off the top of your head. Grab the tables you want, add the associations and the query is built for you. The Visual Query Builder works with any ODBC or OLE DB data source.
New in PrimalScript 2007: ADO Database Wizard
A common task for scripters is working with databases. Typically VBScript coders use ADO to access database tables. However, creating code to access, modify or otherwise interact with databases can be arcane and mystifying. The Professional and Enterprise editions of PrimalScript 2007 include an ADO Wizard that generates VBScript code which you can insert directly into an open VBScript.
New in PrimalScript 2007: Evolved Script Packager
The script packager in PrimalScript 2007 has undergone an overhaul and is now the Evolved Script Packager. You can use this feature to package VBScripts, HTAs and PowerShell scripts into self-contained executables. You can even specify alternate credentials.
In previous versions, you were limited to using the Windows Script host to execute your packaged script. Now you can use the SAPIEN Script Host which will run everything in memory. The script is not written to the hard drive as a temp file. You don’t have to deploy any additional software either. The SAPIEN Script Host is packaged with your script so everything is in one file.
New in PrimalScript 2007: Integrated VBScript Core Help
Previous versions of PrimalScript relied on MSDN documentation for Windows Script Host (WSH) and VBScript help. The problem with that documentation was that it was skimpy and aimed at web developers. To solve that problem SAPIEN Press has published WSH and VBScript Core: TFM. This is a complete reference written for Windows administrators. PrimalScript 2007 has integrated the syntax and samples from the book to serve as the help system for VBScript and WSH.
New in PrimalScript 2007: Find In Files
Previous versions of PrimalScript had a very useful “Find in Files” feature. In PrimalScript 4.1 you could search for something in your script files and the results were displayed in an output pane showing you the file and the line number where the match was found. Double-clicking on a result opens the script and jumps to that line. That functionality remains in PrimalScript 2007. But of course we couldn’t leave it at that.
NEW in PrimalScript 2007: A New UI
The crack development team at SAPIEN has really gone all out to make this version of PrimalScript one of the nicest looking and user friendly versions ever. PrimalScript 2007 has a number of new user interface (UI) enhancements that allow you to customize PrimalScript’s look and feel. But these enhancements go beyond mere eye-candy. Depending on how you work, some of these enhancements may make your PrimalScript experience more productive.
PrimalScript 2007 is Here!
SAPIEN is pleased to announce general availability of PrimalScript 2007. You can download a free trial, or purchase your copy (or purchase an upgrade, if you’re eligible). If you’re already a PrimalScript owner, you can use our Upgrade Advisor to determine what your upgrade options are.
We recommend installing the trial version and evaluating it before you decide to upgrade. Many features, especially those relating to the user interface, have changed; if this will bother you, we’d prefer you to know about it in advance.
In the coming days we’ll be blogging about the new features in more detail, but for right now, here’s a quick list:
PrimalScript 2007: A Frozen Treat?
Sometime today, the code for PrimalScript 2007 will “freeze,” meaning the developers have to check everything in up at SAPIEN World Headquarters, I can start working on the new edition of PrimalScript 2007: TFM, and we can start taking screen shots and whatnot for the Web site. We’ll be bringing you some of the new […]
