At long last, we’ve released an updated version of Windows PowerShell: TFM 3rd Ed that covers PowerShell CTP 3. Actually, you’ll find some overlap with the version of PowerShell included in WIndows 7 RC1. This version of the book is offered in eBook format as part of our IPO program.
Windows PowerShell: TFM 3rd Edition.
When the first PowerShell CTP came out, SAPIEN Press began offering the 3rd edition of our popular Windows PowerShell: TFM book. The 3rd edition of the book covers PowerShell version 2. While the version 2 is in CTP status, we’ve been offering the book as an ebook only. Once the PowerShell v2.0 officially ships, then everyone who has a ebook version will get a copy of the final printed book.
With each CTP release, the book is updated. Of course by now you probably heard that CTP3 has been released. We know you are eager to get your hands on the new material and we are eager to get it to you.
Where do I begin?
“I’m new to scripting and need a book recommendation.” “Should I learn VBScript or PowerShell?” “What are some good books for learning scripting?”
These are natural and common questions. A few years ago the answers would have been simple. But today if you are just getting started with administrative scripting, the answers only bring more questions. The real question isn’t what book should you read but what technology should you learn? If you are a a SAPIEN blog reader I’m going to assume that the choice comes down to VBScript or PowerShell. The quick answer is to learn both, but I realize that’s not practical. So let’s look at this a bit further and realize that some of this will change once PowerShell v2.0 is released as part of Windows 7 and depending on your adoption of Windows 7.
PowerShell In Production Poll – Closed
We’re going to close out the PowerShell in production poll. Thanks to all who responded. The margin narrowed a bit but still over 70% of you, or at least those who frequent the SAPIEN blog, are running PowerShell in a production environment. For organizations who aren’t I understand the reasons and believe that PowerShell v2 will bring more of you on board. Of course I hope you won’t wait, there’s no reason not to at least learning PowerShell. Sure, PowerShell v2.0 will offer lots of new bells and whistles, but you won’t have wasted any time learning PowerShell v1.0.
