This time, I\u2019m going to try something I\u2019ve never tried with a book before: Making it more of a community effort.<\/p>\n<p>Not so much \u201ccommunity\u201d in the sense that I\u2019m expecting you to help write it, but \u201ccommunity\u201d in the sense of involving you &#8211; the community &#8211; from the get-go, starting with the Table of Contents.<\/p>\n<p>A while back, I asked you what you considered \u201cAdvanced,\u201d so\u00a0I\u2019m back with a preliminary Table of Contents, and I\u2019d like your feedback. What\u2019s missing? What do you think is \u201cout of bounds\u201d that\u2019s listed here? I\u2019ll continue to revise this throughout future blog posts, using your feedback to fine-tune the TOC further and further so that it\u2019ll be the perfect book for you.<\/p>\n<p>(PS &#8211; ignore the \u201cchapter numbers\u201d for now &#8211; this is just a numbered list in no particular order at the moment)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cmdlet and Snap-In Development<\/li>\n<li>Accessing Databases<\/li>\n<li>The Windows PowerShell Pipeline in Depth<\/li>\n<li>Extending Windows PowerShell\u2019s Type System<\/li>\n<li>Creating Custom Windows PowerShell Formats<\/li>\n<li>.NET Framework Crash Course \/ Leveraging the Framework in Windows PowerShell<br \/>\n(would touch on using Windows Forms, for example)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Right now this isn\u2019t &#8211; believe it or not &#8211; really a full-sized book; so tell me what\u2019s missing. My goal is to keep this focused on sys admins, not developers, although I realize \u201ccmdlet development\u201d definitely toes that line a lot &#8211; my intent with that chapter would be a solid introduction with some good, short examples &#8211; essentially a way of quickly creating simple cmdlets; a more complex cmdlet just demands more in the way of .NET development which is a tad beyond the sys admin scope.<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts?
