One tool has three features you like, but another has one you can\u2019t live without. Fortunately, hidden in PowerShell Studio 2014 is delightful feature that bridges the gap between the fully featured Editor Pane and the interactive response of the Console Pane. It\u2019s called the <em>enhanced console input line<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The enhance console input line is part of the Console Pane. It runs interactive commands in the console.\u00a0 But it includes the benefits of the Editor Pane, including PrimalSense (syntax coloring, command completion, etc) and context-sensitive help.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sapien.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/InputLine2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"InputLine2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sapien.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/InputLine2_thumb.png\" alt=\"InputLine2\" width=\"383\" height=\"288\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Type as you would in the Editor Pane. When you press Enter, PowerShell Studio sends the command to the Windows PowerShell process in the Console Pane and clears the input line.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sapien.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/InputLine3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"InputLine3\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sapien.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/InputLine3_thumb.png\" alt=\"InputLine3\" width=\"380\" height=\"290\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Just like the console and the editor, the up-arrow recalls your previous commands and the down-arrow recalls your later commands.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sapien.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/InputLine4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"InputLine4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sapien.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/InputLine4_thumb.png\" alt=\"InputLine4\" width=\"670\" height=\"321\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>To enable the enhanced console input line:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol class=\"numbered\">\n<li>In the PowerShell Studio ribbon <strong>Home<\/strong> tab, in the Windows section, click <strong>Options,<\/strong> and then click <strong>Console<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Check <strong>Enable enhanced console input line<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>To make your change effective, click another pane, such as the Project Pane or the Object Browser. (Clicking inside the Console Pane doesn\u2019t work, but clicking its title bar works just fine.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sapien.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Enhancedconsoleinputline1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"Enhanced console input line\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sapien.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Enhancedconsoleinputline_thumb1.png\" alt=\"Enhanced console input line\" width=\"443\" height=\"183\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>Finally, be sure that you upgrade to the latest version PowerShell Studio 2014. Beginning in version 4.1.72, the PrimalSense in the input line suggests relative paths that are subdirectories of the console path, as you would expect. In previous versions, the input line suggests subdirectories of the current directory of the Editor Pane, not the current directory of the console. This issue is limited to PrimalSense command completion suggestions. In all versions, when you run a command that uses relative paths, it runs in the console and uses the console\u2019s current directory.<\/p>\n<p>Try the enhanced console input line and let us know what you think.
