If I had the time, I would have looked at Microsoft MVP <a href=\"http:\/\/www.concentratedtechnology.com\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Shield&#8217;s<\/a> book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sapienpress.com\/Windows_Server_08.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Windows Server 2008: What&#8217;s New\/What&#8217;s Changed<\/a>. Like you I don&#8217;t have time to read an exhaustive door stop of a book (not that those titles don&#8217;t have value).\u00a0 What I needed was to learn about only the new Server 2008 features.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been around long enough to know what a server is. All I needed was information on what was new in Server 2008 and what things changed from Server 2003.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve since gone back and read part of Greg&#8217;s book to clear up some misconceptions, learn how to do a few things and pick up a few new morsels of information. If you&#8217;ve ever met Greg or seen him speak at Techmentor, you&#8217;ll find his writing style is just like him: laid back and easy going but with a <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">slight <\/span>seething and roiling undercurrent of energy and enthusiasm for information technology.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what you can expect:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chapter 1: Introduction to Windows Server 2008<\/li>\n<li>Chapter 2:\u00a0 Installing Windows 2008<\/li>\n<li>Chapter 3:\u00a0 Server Management<\/li>\n<li>Chapter 4:\u00a0 Group Policy<\/li>\n<li>Chapter 5:\u00a0 Server Core<\/li>\n<li>Chapter 6:\u00a0 Active Directory<\/li>\n<li>Chapter 7:\u00a0 Terminal Services<\/li>\n<li>Chapter 8:\u00a0 Security &amp; the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security<\/li>\n<li>Chapter 9:\u00a0 IIS 7.0<\/li>\n<li>Chapter 10:\u00a0 Other New &amp; Compelling Features<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And as a bonus, you&#8217;ll find several chapters from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sapienpress.com\/PowerShell2.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Windows PowerShell: TFM<\/a> book which you can use as a jump start or refresher. So if you&#8217;re considering jumping to Server 2008 and wonder what you have in store, I encourage you to pick up a copy of Greg&#8217;s book. If nothing else download a sample chapter from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sapienpress.com\/Windows_Server_08.asp\" target=\"_blank\">SAPIEN Press<\/a>.
