Sometimes we have to look at files with a size that far exceeds anything a regular code editor can handle. After all, source files of any language usually don’t venture north of a few hundred KB.<\/p>\n
I am sure there are some slightly bigger, so please don’t make this a contest about who has the biggest \u2026 source file\u2026<\/p>\n
Log files on the other hand silently sit there and accumulate output from databases, services or whatnot and only once they have grown beyond any reasonable size we suddenly need to look at them and figure out what went wrong.<\/p>\n
PrimalScript 2011 now supports reading files of ANY size. If you open a file that is simply too large for editing PrimalScript will open it in read-only mode.<\/p>\n
Below is a video showing a generated test file of 3.94GB being dragged onto PrimalScript. We then scroll through the lines to the bottom (Line 38’991’770) and back to the top. It also shows that finding a string 10’000 or 100’000 lines down is fairly snappy.<\/p>\n
